Something along the lines of >9000, I guess...
Also happy listening.

I know, this was about everyone (could have written it clearer). How many users are here? I doubt the only ones with Last.fm accounts are already in the group. I guess I'll put the link in my sig...

Hum, I have no idea how their new album sounds like. There seems to be a problem with copyright laws in my country. Does anyone have a link were I can listen to their new album without problems?

Thanks

I don't think that the album is being streamed anywhere. The best thing that I can think of is to just look up the tracks on YouTube.

Yeah, that's what I did at first, but youtube has restrictions in some countries. So, I looked them up on a foreign youtube website. But, thanks a lot, budokaiman!
Just listened to most of their new songs, and I like it! Great album once again! Up the Irons!

Well, 2010 is over, so I made a nice little list of all of the new albums that I bought throughout the year (and there are plenty that I still need to buy).

And a best/worst of the year list.

What albums did you guys get and love or hate?

There were lots of classic thrash metal bands releasing albums in 2010.

Exodus - Exhibit B: The Human Condition
Awesome as usual for Exodus.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FczpRDktRco

Heathen - The Evolution of Chaos
Pretty good, considering it's their first album in over a decade.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5lYC__1xMs

Flotsam and Jetsam - The Cold
Not much better than their past few albums, which weren't very good. Still, Doomsday For the Deceiver and No Place For Disgrace are classics, so I always listen to their albums to see if they've gotten back to their old level of awesomeness. Here's one of their classic songs, since their new ones aren't that good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeVljA9zWlw

Forbidden - Omega Wave
Okay, I guess. Not the best of the year, but certainly not the worst.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hITjaYjw2Ys&feature=related

Overkill - Ironbound
Clearly the best album of the year. I won't bother saying anything about it, just listen to it and be blown away:

I do agree with you, it is not quite to the same standard as Blackbird or one day remains, but I still quite like the songs on the album.

didn't pick up many 2010 releases but maiden's my fave of the year. good stuff!

changing tracks here (we can multi-thread now, right? )... i just came across this kid on youtube:

he's 5 there (6 now) and doing pretty damned good considering the song (~1:35 is where it really gets good; the last 20 secs are awesome. nice scream!). i went through and watched a few others (iron man, and detroit rock city (maybe his best?), et al) and really dig this kinda stuff. ie, young kids showing such an affinity for metal/music.

question is, we see tons of these prodigy types all over youtube... all of them filled with comments like "oh, man. he/she's gonna be great when he/she grows up!". the parent of this kid seems to be doing all he can to feed his (current) passion (kits, sponsors, appearances, t-shirts, etc. prolly making a few bucks in the process, etc, and hopefully it all goes to his college fund) but do they ever go on to hit it big? or, even to be able to make a living playing music? myspace, itunes, etc, opened doors for musicians to make a few bucks to support themselves and their art, get some exposure and maybe turn it into a career. but, these young ones... what are the odds? has anyone seen someone go from 5 to 15 years old on youtube, maybe get a record deal, etc?

ack: have to add this double-bass attack:

Aah, I've finally found this thread back.
Has it been this long already? Hahaha!
Just to let you all know I'm still making (metal)music. I've been doing a lot lately, sometimes a bit too much, and making my own metalsongs is still one of them.
Here's a piece of a song I did a couple of months ago. It's not completely finished, but it sounds rather good to me, and I was hoping for some comments on it from you guyz and girlz (if any?).
It's a heavy, fast song and the title is 'Alien Experiment'. So, I hope you'll enjoy.

Cheers

that's hillarious, unique, and metal, all at the same time!

one complaint is that i wouldn't tout "heavy" unless you add something heavy to it (i ain't hearing heavy right now but wish i was).

i think you need to start working on a halloween EP; this would fit right in

as always, good stuff!

btw, R.U.S.H. in june... can't wait. skipped em twice in the past (had tickets and everything...) and never forgave myself. not this time!

Hahaha, glad you like the title, Nomad! The riffs sounded like something alien to me, so that's why I called it 'Alien Experiment'.

Quote: "one complaint is that i wouldn't tout "heavy" unless you add something heavy to it "

Hum, I thought the beginning riff and drums where kinda 'heavy'?

Quote: "i think you need to start working on a halloween EP; this would fit right in"

Yeah, now that you've mentioned that, you do have a point. Its a great comment, so thank you very much!
I prefer their latest work though.

Are You Metal?

I have no idea how I missed this thread Would anyone be interested in a little collaboration work between members - there's some real talent here?

Myself, I've been playing bass for a good few years now - I'm not amazing, but I can play I guess I've been playing piano since I was about seven so I've got a good musical / theory grounding - and recently I've got into production too. If anybody was interested in the collaboration thing then I'd quite happily produce it.

I don't know how I missed the last couple of posts.

That was an interesting song. What did you use to get that effect? It sounded like a mix between a tube filter and something else that I can't quite put my finger on.

Quote: "Would anyone be interested in a little collaboration work between members"

We tried to do that once, with a few of us. The problem was that not all of us had the time to do much with it. I know that The Slayer would still love to do a collaboration, I would too (once I have the time / money to get a drum set).

Well, I play the guitar, I used to drum too, and I had piano/orgue lessons when I was a kid. I make my own songs too (mainly metalsongs) which you can find on this thread, starting from here.
What kinda music do you play/prefer?

Quote: "I know that The Slayer would still love to do a collaboration, I would too (once I have the time / money to get a drum set)."

Yeah, I still do. I think Herakles was also interested but didn't have enough time back then. Maybe he does now?
There where some other members willing to join too. If I remember correctly, Indicium (used to be called Mad Nightmare) wanted to sing.

Quote: "That was an interesting song. What did you use to get that effect? It sounded like a mix between a tube filter and something else that I can't quite put my finger on."

Hum, I only used my BOSS ME-70 guitar effects processor and maybe a few tweaks in the mix.

Cool! Anxiously awaiting to hear your songs.

I'm a metalhead through and through good sir. Within that I'm pretty much into all the sub-genres; but I don't do grind. I listened to some of your tracks and I thought they were great, the blackened death influences certainly were evident. I'd like to do something which gives everyone a chance to explore, and black/death gives quite a lot of freedom I think.

I like allmost all metalgenres, but Doom Metal and Nu metal are not my favorites.

Quote: "I listened to some of your tracks and I thought they were great, the blackened death influences certainly were evident."

Thanks, dude. Yeah, there's definatly some blackened death influence in my music, but I try other genres too. I grew up with bands as Iron Maiden, Saxon, Slayer, Mercyful Fate, Venom, Megadeth, Metallica, etc...

Quote: "I'd like to do something which gives everyone a chance to explore, and black/death gives quite a lot of freedom I think."

Yeah, even in black/death there's room for improvisation, like progressive/technical/melodical...
A band that I really like too, is Akercocke. There's so much variation in their music, which gives them a unique sound.

I can't wait to hear it, I wonder if they'll do a classic sound, something similar to their recent albums, or something totally new.

Also, the new Becoming the Archetype album came out. I bought it, but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.

@BlueKlayman:
Yep, its not bad at all.

As promised, here's another demo of one of my metalsongs. And although it is the 1st of April today, this is not a joke.
So, here is how the beginning of the song, which is called 'Army Of Souls', sounds like.
I know, the drumparts are not completely done. They need more variation.
All comments are very much appreciated. Thanks.

That was a really cool riff. The only thing is the time signature on the solo at ~00:30 seems to be a bit faster than it should.

That was awesome, The Slayer! I would say that is one of your best yet (well, the ones that you have posted here anyway).

Much appreciated, Herakles! Yeah, its definatly one of my better riffs. The inspiration I had that day was awesome. And, I'm getting better at playing too, even after 10 years.
Hope you still jam?

Cheers

Every musician constantly gets better, assuming they play consistenlty. I'm still getting better even after 30 years (though there have been years where I was not able to play consistently).

Until the day I die. And, if there really is an afterlife, even beyond that day.
